Personal Appearance
Chicopee School District policy on personal appearance states . . . "that good judgment would indicate that certain types of clothing are inappropriate in a school setting." With the spring and summer season upon us we are asking for student and parental support regarding appropriate school attire. These are not allowed: short shorts, halter tops, spaghetti strap shirts for girls, cut out/sleeveless shirts and very baggy shorts for boys. They can cause a disruption of the educational process. Students will be asked to change, they can call home for a change of clothing, or may spend the day in student support where work will be provided for them for the day. If it is a regular occurrence a meeting will be scheduled with their parents.
Attendance
The attendance policy for the district states that at the middle school level any student with more than twenty absences is at risk of retention (staying back). To minimize attendance issues Bellamy School utilizes the Connect-Ed System to regularly contact families regarding their child's absence. It is important that families notify the school whenever their child will be absent. Documentation or a doctor's note is helpful, but it does not excuse the absence. The Drs. note only documents the reason for the absence. Vacations during the school year are discouraged and families need to be aware that the time missed during a vacation cannot be appealed at the end of the year. Please call your guidance counselor if you have any concerns or questions.
